On May 27, 2025, Don Franco Monterubbianesi passed away at the age of 94, founder of the original Capodarco Community in Fermo.
Capodarco Formazione carries forward the educational and inclusive legacy of the Capodarco Community, born from the courage and vision of Don Franco. We owe to him the birth of a movement that for over 50 years has promoted dignity, autonomy and work for people with disabilities, with training, reception and community courses.
His teaching is alive today in our offices and in the lives of those who grow with us every day.
A story that includes the forgotten
Don Franco Monterubbianesi was born in Fermo in 1931. After studying theology and philosophy, he was ordained a priest in 1956. The turning point came when he approached the world of disability, sensing the need to overcome isolation and offer concrete alternatives to confinement in care centers. In 1966 he founded the Capodarco Community in an abandoned villa, together with young volunteers and people with disabilities.
The community grows rapidly, promoting authentic relationships, work and new models of coexistence. The first families and children are born, and a message of welcome and social justice spreads throughout Italy and abroad. Today, 13 communities are active in Italy and 4 in the world, with over 1,200 people welcomed and thousands of rehabilitation services every year.
Don Franco has always believed in the importance of inclusion, active participation and response to the needs of the territory.
His spirit still lives on in every educational project, in the daily work with children, and in the commitment to a more just and supportive society.
