What happens when an ancient myth, full of transformation and symbolism, meets the cinematic language and the desire for redemption of a group of students? What happens is that culture ceases to be an abstract concept and becomes a concrete life experience, capable of breaking down barriers and building trust.
This is the heart of “Apollo & Daphne's Story”, the short film made by the students of the Individualized Training Courses of the CFP Grottaferrata of Capodarco Training, which will be screened at Madison Cinema Alfellini the next one October 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
Myth as a mirror of reality
The choice of the myth of Apollo and Daphne, taken from the Metamorphosis by Ovid, is not accidental. The narrative deals with themes of extraordinary relevance: the search for one's identity, The right to self-determination, The consent and the respect for others. Through audiovisual transposition, the complexity of the classic text becomes a story accessible to all, capable of stimulating intuitive learning and critical reflection.
The short film acted as a educational glue, combining different disciplines in a transversal way: from Italian to English, from Civic Education to Art History, up to digital skills and workplace safety.
From the museum to the set
A crucial moment of the journey was the visit to the Borghese Gallery, where the students were able to admire the famous sculptural group of Apollo and Daphne by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Direct observation of the sculpture guided the transposition of dynamic movement and visual narrative into the video footage: the beauty of the art became the engine of creative inspiration.
Enhance talents
One of the most powerful aspects of the project is its ability to overturn prejudices. Through the successful experience By breaking down tasks into small, progressive goals, students were able to experience concrete achievements, building greater self-determination skills and developing a concrete sense of their role in society. In an equal, relational environment, where overprotection gives way to self-determination, each student was able to redefine their own identity. not through a diagnosis, but through the real value of one's achievements and one's authenticity.
Why cinema works
Cinematic language has proven to be the ideal tool for this type of journey. It offers a multimodal synthesis — images, sounds, music, movement — which breaks down communication barriers. Furthermore, it requires a inclusive distribution of rolesThere's someone who writes the screenplay, someone who designs the costumes, someone who acts, someone who takes care of the lighting and editing. Everyone is crucial to the success of the whole.
Inventing stories and characters is also an exercise in getting to know yourself: “"We take our experiences and emotions and place them in a fantasy world. This allows us to reflect on ourselves, using our imagination to better understand what we're feeling."”
